With summer in full swing, some days the heat can feel unbearable. Certain conditions or symptoms can worsen with the weather.
According to Arthrosurface.com, because joints contain sensory nerves that respond to the smallest of changes in the weather, temperature and humidity can affect the amount of fluid in a joint causing swelling, inflammation, and also pain.
Here are a few tips to stay cool this summer and give those joints a break.
1.) Stay indoors where it’s cool.
2.) Wear breathable and loose fabrics such as cotton instead of synthetic materials.
3.) Stay hydrated: Water and electrolytes will keep you hydrated, whereas soda, caffeinated beverages and alcohol can cause dehydration.
4.) Stay active by swimming. Swimming is a low-impact activity and keeps pressure off of the joints.
